We don’t currently offer international shipping through our website. If you wish to place an order from outside the UK, please contact us at hello@shrubby.uk or using the website contact form and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  • Are your Products Suitable for Vegans?

All our products are vegan friendly.

  • Are your Products Tested on Animals?

No, Shrubby products or ingredients are tested on animals.

  • My Candle is not Burning Evenly, What Should I do?

It is advised to always burn Shrubby candles for 2-4 hours for best results (especially on first use). This ensures a good-sized melt pool and prevents ‘tunnelling’.

  • My Candle is Smoking or Burning too Quickly. What Should I do?

To avoid too large a flame and ‘mushrooming’, trim the wick regularly to approximately 5mm.

  • Are your Products Safe to use Around Pets?

Although all of our candles contain 100% natural fragrance, some animals (and humans too!) can react differently to certain ingredients. As we have never tested any of our products on animals, we are unable to confirm.

There is currently no scientific data that indicates diffusing essential oils can be harmful to pets. However, we have summarised some findings below from the resources available:

There are some essential oils that are considered safer than others for use around pets. That being said, this can very from animal to animal i.e. cats vs dogs but also within animals groups this can vary (some cats or dogs may be more or less sensitive to certain oils than others).

All of our products are labelled with the full list of essential oils used in within the fragrance blend.

When researching essential oil toxicity and animals, it is evident that a greater risk is presented through oral or dermal exposure. However, inhalation is also referenced as a potential risk, particularly in relation to birds or animals with underlying respiratory issues.

Where sources reference a risk to animals through inhalation of essential oils, there are a number of references to the use of essential oil diffusers. Again, the risk seems to vary depending on the oil used, the concentration, the animal, and the type of diffuser. In particular, electronic diffusers used with high concentrations of oils are identified as riskier, alongside the use of diffusers around animals that lick their fur to groom and can ingest the oils from their fur. Although we do not make diffuser products, a number of our customers may do so, so we’d advise particular caution with the use of these product in in the home.

As we only make essential oil fragranced candles, this has been the primary focus of our research. However, there are minimal references to the risk essential oils present to pets when used in candles.

To err on the side of caution we would always advise seeking some professional advice from your vet or an animal specialist before using a new product in the home.

It's also worth noting that aside from essential oils, there are references to other ingredients within fragranced candles which could present a risk to both humans and animals (e.g. candles made from paraffin wax, use of lead wicks, and certain ingredients within some fragrance oils). The challenge with many fragrance oils/fragranced products is that the full ingredients aren’t always listed and many of them can also include essential oils within the blend without this being specifically declared.

Therefore, we would advise that if you do choose to use any candle/fragranced product in the home (whether it contains essential oils or not) to ensure that the area is well ventilated and that any pets are free to leave the room or area.

We would also recommend ensuring such products are kept away from reach of any pets in the home.

Note that although we do not sell any concentrated essential oils or products for oral or topical use, we would also advise anyone considering use of essential oils in this way to only do so when they have done their research/consulted a professional and are confident of their safe use.
